FRENCH VINTAGE ART COLLECTION: Motif 8

FRENCH VINTAGE ART

Édouard Bénédictus’ “Variations Quatre-Vingt-Six Motifs Décoratifs En Vingt Planches – Motif 8”, is the inspiration behind this colourful new collection from the Urban Pixel co.

Édouard Bénédictus, a prominent French artist and designer of the early 20th century, created a remarkable collection of decorative motifs in his work titled “Variations Quatre-Vingt-Six Motifs Décoratifs En Vingt Planches.” Published in 1928, this collection showcases Bénédictus’ exquisite craftsmanship and his ability to blend artistry with functional design. His work often reflected the Art Deco movement, characterized by its sleek lines, geometric patterns, and vibrant colors.  Bénédictus took inspiration from various sources, including nature, ancient civilizations, and contemporary trends, to create a diverse and captivating collection.

“Variations Quatre-Vingt-Six Motifs Décoratifs En Vingt Planches.” consists of eighty-six decorative motifs, each presented on a separate plate. These motifs range from intricate floral patterns to geometric abstractions, showcasing Bénédictus’ versatility as an artist. The motifs are carefully composed, striking a balance between symmetry and asymmetry, and exhibit a harmonious blend of form and function.

Art is the proper task of life. The essence of all beautiful art, all great art, is gratitude.

 Friedrich Nietzsche

While “Variations Quatre-Vingt-Six Motifs Décoratifs En Vingt Planches”,  primarily serves as a visual compendium of decorative motifs, Bénédictus intended for his designs to be adaptable and applicable to various mediums. These motifs were intended for use in interior decoration, textiles, ceramics, and other design disciplines. Bénédictus believed that functional objects could be elevated through the integration of aesthetically pleasing motifs, creating a seamless fusion of art and utility.

Plate 8 presents a captivating motif that showcases Bénédictus’ skillful use of bold colours and organic, floral elements. The design  exemplifies his ability to create harmonious compositions that draw inspiration from nature while maintaining a modern aesthetic.
